Worldwide more than 47 million people are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. In the United States it is the 6th leading cause of death. To raise awareness and funds to fight the disease the Alzheimer’s Association and the staff at The Memory Center Richmond and Virginia Beach encourage you to participate in The Longest Day.
The Longest Day is team event sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association and held annually on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The 2016 sunrise-to-sunset event takes place on June 20th and symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the Alzheimer’s as well as their caregivers.
Teams can raise funds by participating in whatever activity they choose to honor their loved ones. From biking, gardening, playing cards or knitting – the ideas are endless, and team members can participate from anywhere. It doesn’t matter if one team member lives in Virginia and another in California.
Once the team activity is chosen, members are encouraged to raise money by asking friends, family members or co-workers for donations.
During the 16 hours of The Longest Day team members can work in shifts to participate in the activity, or if many team members are together they can host an all day event.
Read more about The Longest Day, register your team or get more ideas for activities on the Alzheimer’s Association website and help in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
