Most people know Alzheimer’s disease affects the brain, but don’t really know how.
If you are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s it is helpful to understand how the disease affects the brain and the common stages and progression.
To help educate caregivers, family members and raise awareness, the Alzheimer’s Association developed an interactive Brain Tour that begins by showing the makeup of the human brain, the 3 main parts and explaining their function. The tour then guides you through the different ways Alzheimer’s disease impacts the brain including how Alzheimer’s looks under a microscope.
Alzheimer’s disease leads to nerve cell death and tissue loss in the brain. As the disease progresses the brain continues to shrink which can affect other functions including behavior, bodily functions.

The Brain Tour is available in many different languages and can be found online here. The staff at The Memory Center encourage you to take the tour to learn more about Alzheimer’s and how the disease may impact your loved one.
